This is how Hate Talk sounds. Don’t say you did not know

 my translation to some of  MK Ben Ari hate talk against the left and the human rights organizations. (Hebrew must be consulted for accuracy, audio available on ynet)

We are talking about one of the dangerous things the State of Israel is challenged with. .. Here in Israel there are groups who aim at destroying the Jewish State, nothing less. ..

They are traitors they, traitors, nothing less. We are talking about traitors. [Audience applauses] This is not a time for applauses; we are facing on of those times when we should take things seriously. [Talks about General Almog not getting of the plane in England] “They turn to be the persecutors of IDF soldiers, the informers on IDF soldiers. They wish to castrate our strength of survival…It is all about money … Who is funding it? The biggest enemies (haters) of Israel are funding it, those who wish to exterminate the State. What is their aim? To exterminate the Jewish State. Nothing less, they don’t want the Jewish State to exist and we must understand it, the legislators must understand it, and the legal advisor must understand it, and the state attorney must understand it. Helplessness makes them grow like mushrooms after the rain…

It must end, I think we must comprehend, we have Hezbollah, we have Hamas and we have breaking the Silence … and we must follow their source of funding and neutralized them where it hearts, where the money is.

We have no choice, at this moment… I call on to you to join me in this struggle.. I say again, we must persecute them, we must persecute them in all legal way… and if there is a need for us to make new legislation, a law in the Knesset, and there are several things on my desk, several law proposals on my desk, to eradicate this dangerous enemy. You know when something is external you know how to cope with it, but an inside bacteria, immunodeficiency like this can destroy Israeli society.

Transparency is the bi question and this is why they are shaking of fear. Because millions of dollars flow there funding all these hedonists. As far as they are concerned the State of Israel will be exterminated tomorrow. They with all their millions will live in Sweden, so what do they care?

Simple people where will they go? They receive millions from the European Union from different institutions who wish to exterminate Israel? But Openhimer does. He will have where to run to. We don’t have another state and this is why we need to persecute them. And I say in the legal ways, there are enough tools, and if tools are missing we shall create them, and we must, must, must understand, we are talking about nothing less than an enemy threatening the existence of the state.

Subversive and Proud of it (published in Comment Factory)

The decision by the Israeli parliament to establish a committee to investigate the country’s human rights organizations is one of the worst attacks on democratic values in Israel in recent years. Ironically the attack is not being carried out by militants but by our own government that continues to press the self destruct button in the name of democracy.

I work for Physicians for Human Rights Israel (PHR-Israel), a NGO that promotes the right to health to Israelis, Palestinians and asylum seekers. We are clear in opposing the occupation and in calling for a political solution to this long conflict that is ripping apart Israeli society as it is squeezing the life from Palestinian communities. PHR-Israel, along with other human rights organizations, has been accused of working against and delegitimizing the state of Israel . We are further accused of trying to harm our soldiers by exposing human rights abuses and violation of international law committed by them, some in accordance with government policies.

Yesterday, January the 5th 2011, the Israeli parliament had passed a decision to investigate the left and human rights organizations. Two investigations were advocated for. One, for “examining international foundations and States who fund Israeli NGOs who take part in the de-legitimization campaign to harm IDF soldiers” and the other to examine “the involvement of institutions and foreign governments in funding actions directed against the State and attempts for organized acquisition of its lands.”

Yet, what had passed in the parliament yesterday is deeper that those two miserable investigations. What had passed – and the following discussion exposes it – is a wholesale of democratic values and freedoms. The speakers of the majority manifested the vanity and disregard that is unique to dictators. They lost all interest in listening. No true debate followed, because the majority thinks debate is over estimated and a waste of time. They draw the line, and are not willing to speak or answer those members of parliament which are not “us” who are deemed to leftist or who represent the Arab minority. And so MK Kirshenbaum from Israel Beitenu tell Meretz MK Haim Oron “Dear friend I have decided I am not answering you.” Deputy of foreign ministry tells MK Hana Sueid from Hadash “I am not tal king to you.. I am tal king to Michael Eitan whom I value as a democrat and a Zionist”. And so, the objection of nitzan Horvitz from Meretz goes unnoticed, and the vote goes on without the need to answer him.

Those raising the suggestions for investigations are portraying themselves as speaking on behalf of our soldiers and our democracy. But their intent should be clear, and we must not be misled by their rhetoric. They only wish to continue to have us – and the soldiers – as obedient followers to a destructive policy. A policy of continuous occupation and dispossession, of harsher violence – always escalating in face of the oppressed uprising and struggle for freedom; a policy of leaders who wish to have the benefits of wealth and reign without any responsibility or long term strategy for peace and wellbeing.

It is time to shout, because they are deaf to our needs. It is time to go out to our public and beg them to wake up because it is already too late. It is time to join hands with whoever understands the perils of our current regime. And it is time for me to admit, if subversive is to stand for freedom and democracy, I am subversive and proud of it.

חומר למחשבה בעקבות הניסיון להשתקת קולות

לאחרונה מתגברים הקולות הדורשים כי כולנו נעמוד באותו מקום, קולות שהדיאלוג זר להם, הביקורת שנואה עליהם, וכל סימני השאלה בזויים בעיניהם.

ישבתי על מרפסת ביתי בשבת בבוקר, חרדה למדינה ולחברה שלי, והחלטתי לקרא ספר, להפסיק לחשוב על מסע ההסתה של אם תרצו ודומיהם. הגעתי לעמוד 31 בספרו של פרימו לוי “הטבלה המחזורית” והנה הוא מלמד את כולנו שיעור שרלוונטי גם היום, ובלי עוד מילה של פרשנות, הנה הטקסט לשירות החשיבה שלנו:

“רשימות הקורס כללו פרט אחד שנעלם ממני בקריאה ראשונה, לאמור, שהאבץ הרך והעדין, הכנוע כל -כך בפני כל חומצה עד שזו בולעת אותו בנגיסה אחת , משנה את טעמו לחלוטין כשהוא במצב נקי: אז הוא עומד קשה עורף בפני ההתקפה. אפשר היה להסיק מכך שתי מסקנות פילוסופיות מנוגדות: שבחו של הטוהר, המגן כשריון מפני הרע; ושבחו של הזיהום, המביא לידי שינויים, ובמילים אחרות – מחולל חיים. דחיתי מעלי את הראשונה, המבחילה במוסרנותה, והשתהיתי להרהר בשניה, שהיתה יותר לרוחי. כדי שיסתובב הגלגל, כדי שיחיו החיים, יש צורך בזיהומים וזיהומי-זיהומים: גם בקרקע, כידוע, כדי שתהיה פוריה. יש צורך במחלוקת, בשוני, בגרגר של מלח ושל חרדל: הפאשיזם אינו רוצה בהם, מטיל עליהם איסור, ולכן אינך פאשיסט; הוא רוצה שכולם ידמו זה לזה, ואתה אינך דומה. אך גם טוהר מוסרי בלא-רבב אינו קיים, ואם הוא קיים הריהו מאוס. טול איפוא את תמיסת הנחושת הגופרתית מעל מדף הראגנטים, הוסף ממנה טיפה לחומצה הגופרתית שלך, ותראה את התגובה מתחילה: האבץ מתעורר, מתכסה בפרווה לבנה של בועיות מימן, וזהו, הכשף אירע, אתה יכול להניח אותו לוגרלו ולהסתובב לך במעבדה, לראות מה חדש ומה עושים האחרים.”

מה רואים מבעד לחלון המכונית

 

השנה, כך אחימאיר, “אני קונה דגל” ולא סתם הוא קונה אותו, אלא כהתרסה. וכנגד מה מתריס אחימאיר – כנגד מה הוא “תוקע” (כך במקור) את הדגל בחלון מכוניתו, כנגד חגורת השנאה. מעולם לא השתתף בהפגנה כך מעיד על עצמו אחימאיר, זו ההפגנה שלו. כנגד – קודם כל – השופט גולדסטון שהזיק לנו עם הדו”ח שלו.

אז הבה ונמשיך לדמיין, ונצטרף למסעו של אחימאיר ברחבי הארץ הכואבת הזו, וננסה לדמיין מה רואים “מבעד לחלון” רק אם מביטים. לא צריך דו”ח גם לא איום במתקפה והשמדה (אחימאיר מזכיר את ארודאן ואחמדינג’אד) כדי להיחרד ממה קורה לנו לאחרונה. צריך כאמור, רק להביט מבעד לחלון.

אולי יתחיל את מסעו בבית הנשיא וייזכר במה מואשם הדייר הקודם ויעלה הסומק בפניו מבושה. אך לא, יאמר לעצמו, מביט בחיוך בדגל המתנופף, זה רק אדם אחד. אז ימשיך בכבישי הבירה, ובדרכו לתל אביב לא מן הנמנע שיעבור בכביש בגין. אם יביט מהחלון, אולי יבחין בפרוייקט הולילנד. אולי תזכיר לו המפלצת הארכיטקטונטית את השוחד שפשה במוסדותנו.

עת יסע לתל אביב יתכן וינסה להימנע מהפקקים ויעדיף את כביש 443. גם אם יביט מהחלון לא יראה אחימאיר את הפלסטינים. אלו כלואים מאחורי החומה ולא יפריעו לדגלו להתנופף ברוח הקלילה. מחסום קטן והופ הוא עבר את הקו הירוק לישראל. אבל מה ההבדל ומי מרגיש בכלל במחסום כשלמכונית הגאה לוחית זיהוי צהובה? אין חיפוש אין עיכוב, אפשר להמשיך לנסוע לעיר שיש לה ים ואולי גם אופק. עת ירצה לבלות בחלק מהמועדונים הפזורים בעיר יתכן ויבחין באחיו האתיופים שכה עמל להביאם לארץ, ממתינים ועיניהם כלות, עת מחלחלת בהם ההכרה כי הדלת סגורה, בפניהם. אולי גם יעבור בדרום תל אביב מדמיין מציאה נדל”נית. האם שם תאפשר לו זגוגית חלונו לראות את הפליטים, מהגרי העבודה, מחפשים מקום חם ללון, לשים בוא את הראש לרגע. קצת הלאה, ממשיך דרומה ונותן לרוח הים להשיב את נפשו, הדגל הגאה יתבדר על רקע תנופת השיפוץ שמביאה את תל אביב ליפו ודוחקת את ערביי יפו (שוב) החוצה.

אולי ירהיב עוז בנפשו ויצא צפונה אל עיירות שנשכחות כל עוד האויב הוא העוני אך מועלות על שפת כל מנהיגנו עת האויב הוא מבחוץ, אולי יבקר בואדי ניסנאס ובנמל חיפה ויזכר כיצד נשברו איגודי עובדים, ותנועות מחאה. כן גם אז היה זה בשם הדגל, האחדות.

וכך עם דגל מתבדר וגאה, וחלון שהותזו עליו מים, ושהאבן שבמים הישראלים חוסמת בו קצת את הראייה ואולי גם את הלב, הוא יעשה דרכו חזרה לירושלים. אולי באיזה סיבוב קצר – כנראה כשניסה לחמוק מאיזה פקק תנועה – יעבור ליד בניין בג”צ ויזכר כיצד התחרו מנהיגנו בניסיונות לקעקע את המוסד הזה ולהשתיק את ביקורתו.

ואולי לא יתנופף הדגל כלל, ומתוך התרסה על חוקי הפיסיקה יכריז לעצמו חירות מבעליו. כי מי כבר יודע מה מרגיש הדגל הזה כשתוקעים אותו בחלון מכונית כהתרסה כנגד כל מי שלא מתיצב דום ומישר שורה עם הכבשים הפועות לחלילו של המלין.

Israel can be proud of its public health system, I say, because one needs to start positive. BUT: our government, irresponsible in every aspect, is trying to privatize it by under funding and by allowing supplument insurance that only some can afford. But the story does not end here, our government negates the right to health from asylum seekers, from spouses of Arab citizens – because they cannot be defined as “residents”, then it negates infrastructure from our Bedouin citizents because it has a dispute over land with them (in the unrecognized villages), it also relates to the Palestinians’ needs in the oPt as “not my problem”. So, should we celebrate our world health day with pride? no, we shoudld celebrate it with protesting and working harder for equality. Our government might not listen, but governments change. it is the public atmosphere of division, racism and lack of solidarity that we need to approach. so here is a first step with 3 postcards describing the gaps that need to be addressed. additional 3 will be pulished during 2010. איך גם שיפור חיים ורגיעה בגדה המערבית נתפסים כסכנה לישראל

“איזו כתבה מוזרה הופיעה היום. כתבה שבה השקט בגדה המערבית – שכרגע לא נדון אם נכון הוא תיאור המצב אם לאו – נתפס כסכנה לישראל. באמת הזוי. והנה חלק מהטקסט “ותיקי חטיבת הצנחנים שהיו רצים מסביב לבסיס האימונים החטיבתי בפאתי כפר שנור לפני שהועתק לדרום הר חברון, יופתעו מהשקט השורר בגזרה. החשש והאיומים התחלפו בשדות, מטעים, כבישים נקיים ותחושה שהשלום נמצא במרחק יריקה. אבל גם מאחורי התיאורים הפסטורליים מסתתרת דאגה גדולה: מדינת ישראל הולכת ומאבדת את הנכסים שלה לקראת המיקוח במשא ומתן עתידי מול הרשות הפלסטינית. זה נכון ששקט בצד הפלסטיני משרת את האינטרסים הביטחוניים של ישראל, אבל בבוא היום נמצא את עצמנו מתקשים להפעיל מנופי לחץ על הממשלה הפלסטינית. (הדגש שלי) מתי נבין שלאמלל אנשים, לא לתת להם לזוז, זה לא מנוף לחץ, זה פשוט טמטום שגורם לכך שכאשר נרצה לדבר (מתי?) על חזון שתי המדינות, כולם יהיו שרוטים כל כך שיהיו דרושות תעצומות נפש לסליחה על כל הדיכוי הזה.  אז מספיק עם מנופי הלחץ (מה זה בכלל?) ובואו נדבר פשוט צדק ושיוויון.

על הענווה: סמי שלום שטרית תרם כיליה לאחיו

 לא פעמים רבות נתקל אדם במעשה כה יפה שבו אדם פועל מתוך אמונה חברתית ומשלם מחיר אישי משמעותי על כך. רבים מדברים גבוהה גבוהה על ערכים חברתיים ושיוויון והנה באה תרומת הכיליה של סמי שלום שטרית לאחיו יחיאל וכך הם מסבירים זאת: “האם, יקוט, התנגדה תחילה לרעיון. היה לה די בבן אחד חולה והיא לא רצתה שבנה השני יסכן את בריאותו. היא הציעה לקנות כליה, אבל שני האחים הדפו את הרעיון בעודו באיבו. גם כשיחיאל קיבל רמזים על האפשרות לקנות כליה בארץ באופן בלתי חוקי, הרעיון נפסל על הסף. סמי: ”שנינו ראינו במי שמוכר את הכליה קורבן, מסכן שנאלץ למכור איבר מגופו תמורת כמה גרושים שיקבל בסופה של העסקה. נכון שיש ’בנק איברים’ של העולם השלישי לאיברים, לביציות, לפונדקאות, אבל לא רצינו להיות חלק מזה”. מדהים. וראוי שמעשים כאלו יזכו לפרסום והערכה. אני מתרגשת ומרגישה ענווה עצומה מול אדם שלקח החלטה ופעל. וכמו בסדרה (בה טרם צפיתי) ‘מה אתם הייתם עושים’   כל אחת חושבת, מה באמת? מקום למחשבה עמוקה וענווה. לפרטים ראו

Jewish Agency: what about the truth?

I have recently learnt from a friend that the Jewish Chronicle of the  19 Feb 2010, contained an inserted brochure from the Jewish Agency for Israel.   Featured in it was an advertisement seeking to persuade British Jews to immigrate and settle in “eight vibrant Israeli cities”.Three of these cities only are actually within Israel, the five others being what international law has declared to be illegal settlements in occupied Palestinian territory (East Jerusalem , Maale Adumim, Ariel, Efrat, the entire Etzion Bloc.) In addition the British Jewish community was targeted with a commercial showing the Goldman family making Aliya into beautiful Israel. It was a misleading commercial, as is the insert: in both nothing was said of the occupation.  Isn’t there some law demanding truthfulness in advertizement?

חברים וחברות

כמעט נפלתי מהתרגשות כי זה פשוט טוב מכדי להיות אמת: סוף סוף כנסת ישראל פועלת להקמת ועדת חקירה פרלמנטרית לעניין גולדסטון. אז טוב, היא בעצם מתכוונת לבדוק רק את הארגונים שהעידו על הפרות זכויות אדם שבצעה ישראל וכבר מכריעה שאנו מגזימנים ושקרנים, אבל במקום מחאה, אנחנו יכולים לנצל את ההזדמנות. הבה ונעלה אחד אחד ונעיד את מה שהעדנו בפני גולדסטון והכנסת תבדוק: האמת דיברנו? ומולנו יעלו אחד אחד המדינאים וקברניטי המלחמה ויתנו את חוות דעתם., איזו דרך טובה מזו לבדוק? אדרבא ואדרבא אני בעד לכתוב להם: באתם לקלל ויצאתם מברכים. תודה.
